Illustrating the usefulness of XFDTD and the FDTD method in the design of implantable devices.
To illustrate the application of FDTD to the design of implantable devices, a simple example has been considered. The example device is about 3.5 x 2 x 2 cm with 2.5 cm bent wire antenna. It is designed to simulate a pacemaker and uses the heart electrode as the antenna.
Figure 1 shows the High Fidelity Body Mesh with surrounding fields as rendered in XFDTD Bio-Pro. Figure 2 is a cross sectional view showing the pacemaker geometry. Figure 3 shows a cross-sectional view with fields; the implanted device is circled in white. Please visit the Brain Bowl Example for more discussion of similar issues.
