Ultimate Control Over Grid Generation

The accuracy of an FDTD simulation is dependent on how well the grid definition discretizes the CAD model. Although XF7 provides the capability to automatically generate grids based on the locations of Part features, unique situations create the need for grid lines to exist where geometry features are not present. These gridding obstacles can easily be handled by defining Fixed Points in the Main Grid editor.

Grid lines can be placed exactly where you want them by double clicking on the Grid in the Project Tree and going to the Fixed Points tab. Here, exact locations can be entered which place a grid line in space, or the Picking Tool can be used to set grid lines relative to geometry.

Below is an example of how a fixed point is used to define a grid line where no geometry feature exists. The dashed red line was placed with the Picking Tool so two cells separate the copper components of the antenna.
